I'm SEWING on cards now!!!

Yesterday I got a sewing machine! (You should know that I am NOT a seamstress!!! I haven't sewn since I was in Home Ec class!!!) Oh my goodness! I am so excited and frustrated all at the same time! (Sewing machines do NOT like me....or maybe it's just user error...but I struggle a bit. :) ) I made a fun fabric flower yesterday that I will share later. I first wanted to show you that I SEWED ON A CARD for the first time!!!!!! This first card that I'm about to show you is one I got from one of my upline's, Brandi, a bit ago and I JUST LOVE IT! (So I did NOT create this card!!!!) Seriously...LOVE it!!!! I saw it yesterday (when I was trying to think of something I could sew :) ) and thought I would make one with the new Summer Mini stuff. SO....let me show you this card first...
HOW CUTE?!?! I don't know if you can tell, but there is actually a window sheet over the whole card. It's held onto the card by the sewing strip you can see. Then the dotted hearts on the bottom and the word "friend" are stamped onto the window sheet! LOVE IT! Here are some more details...
Love those dotted hearts!

And love the sewing and the word "friend". So cute! Then here is the window sheet...
I TRULY love that card!!!! (I hope you bought those supplies when they were available! :) It's the Sending Love Designer Paper, the I {heart} Hearts stamp set, and the With All My Heart stamp set.
If you didn't get all those things then here is the card I made with this layout! It's using all new stuff from the Summer Mini!!!! (Well...mostly Mini stuff.) Here it is...
AHHHHH!!! HOW CUTE! :) (If I do say so myself!) I LOVE the Island Oasis paper. The bright fun colors are just so awesome!!!! And then instead of stamping on a window sheet I just used one of the pre-printed ones that Stampin' Up! sells. These ones are called "Clearly Thanks". I also spritzed the whole background of the card with the Smooch Spritz stuff...the Vanilla Shimmer one. It's so glittery in real life! Here are some of the details...

Hopefully you can see the shimmer here...but look at the fun polka dolka window sheet!!!!
Then look at that fun sewed line (that is holding the window sheet to the card) and the fun tropical flower. This set is called Tropical Party. The big Old Olive leaf is actually from the stamp set "Paradise" that is in the big catalog. For the flowers....I used a technique called "rock and roll". Not sure if you can tell...but I first inked up the large flower in Regal Rose ink and then just rolled the edges in Rose Red. Then the smaller flower I inked in So Saffron first and then rolled in Pumpkin Pie. I am loving that technique lately. :)

Then here is the window sheet. And yes...I used textured cardstock for the card base. I LOVE LOVE LOVE textured cardstock!!!!
The color combo for the card is: So Saffron, Old Olive, Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie, and Tempting Turquoise. So fun and bright!!!!

Thanks for visiting! Hope you enjoy!!!

I love sewing. Never thought of doing it on cards though. I know, we can trade, you help my scrapbook and I'll help you sew. I have some amazing dress patterns you would love for your little girl!

Hi, Ashley--card-extrodinaire'!!

Love the card.....but.....I am A seam stress. Learned from my granny at age 7 and have been going since...
sewed my own prom dress and brides' maids dresses. But when I receive cards that have some sewing on them, I feel the same way I do about cards that have the back of brads showing.
It just seems..."there"...I like everything on my card to have a purpose. For those that want to sew on a card, but don't want to go to the expense of a full machine, there is a small one that runs on batteries, for this purpose, for just under $20, and I was surprised at what a nice job it does.
Thrilled that you're trying new things in cards!!!!!

Question about window sheets. Never used them on a card. Do you cut them the same size as the card. How do you affix them to the card? If you have brads of embellishments that stand out from the card, do you adhere them after you have put on the window sheet. Guess you can tell I just don't get it.
